About Legends 4 Kids

Champions Kids Camp and The ESCAPE Family Resource Center invite you to the Inaugural Legends 4 Kids Gala on February 14, 2009.  Join us as we transform the Verizon Wireless Theater into The Grand Ole Opry.  Stars of The Grand Ole Opry along with some of the best Texas musicians will be on stage for one Grand night of legendary music.

The Legends 4 Kids Gala was created as a charity fundraising event for two of Houston’s most deserving charities, Champions Kids Camp and The ESCAPE Family Resource Center.

About the charities

Champions Kids Camp (www.ChampionsKidsCamp.org) is a non-profit organization that was created in the summer of 2000. The goal and mission of Champions Kids Camp is to provide a positive camp experience for children ages 8-12 who have survived a traumatic injury, illness, or persoanl loss, such as the loss of a loved one.

Through a week-long camp consisting of music, art, sports, recreation and special guests, children are nurtured physically and mentally. Camp leaders and counselors teach about kindness, personal responsibility and giving respect for each other. These qualities are essential to leading fulfilling and productive lives.

Champions Kids Camp's main objective is to help instill a sense of pride in every child and to let them know that they are no longer victims, they are survivors and over-comers, and therefore they are Champions.

ESCAPE Family Resource Center (www.LearnToParent.org) was founded in 1983 by Houston are chapters of the National Exchange Club. The agency's mission is "to prevent child abuse and neglect before a child is hurt by providing intervention, education, and support programs to families in crisis." ESCAPE is the only nonprofit organization in the Greater Houston area that provides family strengthening classes seven days a week in nearly 60 locations in both English and Spanish to adults and children at-risk for experiencing violence in their homes.

ESCAPE's clients learn skills to better cope with stress, communicate effectively, discipline without resorting to punishment, as well as the importance of working together to solve family problems. Since 1983, Houston has been transformed signifcantly as thousands of parents and children have learned new ways to interact safely and harmoniously with one another. This year, over 5,500 clients will participate in ESCAPE's classes. Such success is only possible when generous corporations, churches, organizations, individuals and groups of people come together to do something positive for others. Everyone benefits when at-risk families become stronger, confident, and healthier by learning how to resolve conflicts and "listen with their hearts".
